 | Does Acupuncture Hurt?
It should not hurt to have the needles inserted. Acupuncture needles are hair fine pre-packaged sterilized needles. There can be a slight poke sensation when the needle first goes in. However once the needles are in place, sensations range from none to one of a dull ache. Most patients find it very relaxing and many patients even fall asleep. |
 | What Should I Expect During a Session?
The initial session will take about one hour due to the intake and assessment process. You will be filling out a history form and should allow time before the session to complete it. You will be asked questions about your condition and how your body is dealing with this condition - such as sleep patterns and bowel habits. This gives an overall view of the patterns, which will aid in the rebalancing and relief of your condition. Sessions thereafter take between 45 - 60 minutes. During the actual treatment, there is a short discussion of the acupuncture points to be used and why. After 20 - 30 minutes, the needles are removed and an accessory technique like acupressure or massage may be applied. |
 | How Many Sessions Do I Need?
How soon your condition will improve depends on a number of factors including how long you've had your condition, life style, medical history, and age as well as how often you get treatments. Most people notice a difference within 4 - 6 treatments. |
 | Can Acupuncture Help Me Stop Smoking?
Acupuncture can decrease cravings, reduce withdrawal symptoms, relieve tension, and help people relax. Acupuncture intercepts messages sent by the brain to the body that demand more nicotine, thereby disrupting the addictive process. Do not smoke in the half hour before the session. As part of the treatment, two sessions are required within a day apart for the best benefit, and then additional sessions on a maintenance basis as needed. The needles are generally left in for 45 minutes during the session. |
 | Will My Insurance Cover Acpuncture?
Some insurance are now covering acupuncture sessions. It is important to check with your policy as to the aspects of coverage. For example, some will cover for pain management while others will not cover for smoking cessation. Once you find out if your insurance covers acupuncture we will help with the billing process. |
