Eating Disorders

The most common eating disorders are Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Binge-Eating Disorder.

Anorexia Nervosa is an eating disorder where the individual feels overweight though they are often dangerously thin. Anorexia Nervosa can be marked by resistance to maintain body weight, irregular menstrual periods in females, feelings of inadequacy because of body weight, and an intense fear of gaining weight.

Bulimia Nervosa is an eating disorder where the individual has episodes of binge eating followed by vomiting, taking laxatives, diuretics, enemas, excessive exercise. Individuals with this eating disorder feel an intense fear of gaining weight, and feel disgusted when they binge eat, however they feel a great sense of relief once they have purged.

Binge-Eating Disorder is an eating disorder marked by excessive overeating and out of control eating. Feelings of guilt often accompany binge eating, however this often causes more excessive binge eating. Please visit our Mental Health Resources for more in-depth information.
