Our 3 Phase Approach

Phase I centers around inpatient education about the heart and good health habits, and it also includes an initial program of low-intensity exercises.

Phase II is a more comprehensive education and exercise program. Patients are closely monitored during exercise sessions, which emphasizes improving blood pressure levels and heart function.

The AGH Cardiac Rehab staff assists patients in developing individualized exercise programs with realistic goals. Our Registered Dietitian and Nurse Educator counsel patients on ways to successfully modify their diets and improve overall fitness. Physicians are kept informed of their patient's progress through regular reports.

Phase III emphasizes positive lifestyle changes. Participants encouraged to continue their exercise program at home alone with scheduled sessions of supervised exercise. The program is designed to maintain a functional level of fitness as well as assist the patient's in their long termm commitment to physical activity.
