Inpatient Psychiatric Unit 
Allegan General Hospital's Inpatient Psychiatric Unit offers short-term treatment for adults dealing with mental health issues. All treatment is personalized and our goal is to help stabilize patients in crisis and to help them explore new opportunities for growth and increased independence.
Our nine-bed unit is designed to provide private therapeutic treatment, all of which his strictly confidential. Treatment on the unit is provided by an experienced, professional staff, and includes a psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, and occupational therapists.
We offer daily assessments of psychological issues, evaluation of medication issues, individual and group psychotherapy, and psychological testing as needed. Recreation, exercise, art therapy and healthy, balanced meals are another component of treatment.
Patient Information
Our inpatient unit provides voluntary and involuntary treatment for individuals over 18 years of age. Treatment is completely confidential and medical information will only be discussed with those individuals permitted by the patient.
Patients may bring personal items to make their stay as comfortable as possible. Patients may bring grooming supplies such as their particular brand of soap, shampoo or conditioner. Patients may bring casual clothes (please, no strings on clothing), pajamas, slippers, and linens
as preferred. Patients should also bring any medications they are currently taking.
Patients should not bring valuable property, food or anything not listed above. In order to ensure the safety of staff and patients we ask that you call the unit at (269) 686-4171 if you have any questions regarding permissible items.
The inpatient unit provides generic grooming supplies for all patients, a washer and dryer for patient use, bed linens, and all meals. A television, games, puzzles, and reading materials are also provided.
Friends and Family
Friends and family are encouraged to visit patients during visiting hours. Children under twelve are not be permitted on the unit. We ask that the number of visitors be limited to two per visit.
