Allegan General Hospital Foundation Awards Spring Scholarships


The Allegan General Hospital Foundation is excited to announce the 15 recipients of its spring scholarships awards. These awards are given out to graduating high school seniors and employees of the Allegan Healthcare Group, to support training and higher education studies in health care. New this spring, the AGH Foundation is also giving our awards to children of Allegan Healthcare Group employees. The Foundation awarded more than $13,000 in scholarships during a ceremony at Allegan General Hospital on Thursday, May 21.

High school students who received awards are: Rosalie Artman, Allegan; Kaylie Colyer, Plainwell; Hayley Gilder, Hopkins; Emily Schipper, Martin; Madalyn Smith, Allegan; and Morgan Winger, Wayland.

Allegan Healthcare Group team members that received scholarships are: Jennifer Clevenger (Allegan), Allegan Professional Health Services and Robert Guise (Kalamazoo), Radiology. Jessica Doornaag (Plainwell), Allegan Professional Health Services, Robert Hayes Family Scholarship; Angela Hosek-Wilson (Kalamazoo), Surgery, Debra Rae Daniels Memorial Scholarship Fund; and Jessica Miller (Plainwell), Cancer Care and Infusion Center, Chester Oisten Scholarship Fund.

“Our scholarship programs are an important investment in the people who provide healthcare for us now and in the future,” said Brent Larson, Executive Director of the AGH Foundation. “Beginning this year, we are offering scholarships not only to area high school graduates, and to employees within our healthcare system – we are also providing scholarship awards to children of our employees, all of whom are pursuing studies to build their knowledge and skills in healthcare. It is a key element of our mission to ‘invest in the health of our community.’”

Children of Allegan Healthcare Group employees, who received scholarship awards include: Amanda Cole (Allegan) is pursuing her Bachelors of Science in Nursing at Hope College; Abigail Kramer (Wayland) is attending Baker College pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Radiology Technology; Hope Thompson (Kalamazoo) is working towards an Associate’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology at Kellogg Community College; and Amanda Torres (Kalamazoo) is attending Grace College pursuing a Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling .

The Allegan General Hospital Foundation awards scholarships twice yearly. Awards to high school students are presented each spring. The scholarship fund is made up of the Schuyler Mellen Education Endowment Fund, Marie Hall Nursing Scholarship Fund, Debra Rae Daniels Memorial Scholarship Fund, Chester Oisten Scholarship Fund, Robert Hayes Family Scholarship Fund, and a general fund maintained by the Allegan General Hospital Foundation.

The Allegan General Hospital Foundation invites and accepts financial gifts to help further the mission of Allegan General Hospital, and to support selected health-related projects in the community.
