Record Attendance at 7th Annual Strides for Health 5K

Over 400 individuals, a new record, participated in the 7th Annual Strides for Health 5K held at Allegan General Hospital on Saturday morning, August 17, 2013. Events included a 5K Run and Walk, Kids Fun Run, and free health screenings. There were very young runners in the fun run, up to one runner at 80 years young, demonstrating that running can be fun at almost any age.

Luke Boulter (Plainwell) was the overall male winner. Luke was the first person to cross the finish line at 16:44. In second place was Calvin Chopp (Allegan) who crossed the finish line at 16:49. The third overall male winner was Jesse Aukeman (Byron Center) who finished the race at 17:05.

Jessica Shaw (Allegan) was the overall female winner. Her time was 19:29. This is the fifth year in a row that Jessica has taken home this honor. Close behind, also with a time of 19:29, was Jenna Matthews (Otsego). Gayle Kuipers (Holland) finished third at 20:49, and was also the overall female masters’ winner. Joe Hulsebus (Kalamazoo) was the overall male masters’ winner with a time of 19:07.

The winning team in the Team Division represented the Allegan City Police Department. Team members were Cole Hoyer, Brian McFanin, Paige McFanin, Rick Hoyer, and Mel Brummell.

Strides for Health 5K Run/Walk is presented by the Allegan General Hospital Foundation, Allegan Public Schools Swimming and Diving Program, and the Allegan Tigershark Aquatic Club in an effort to maintain and improve the health of the community.
