Runners & Walkers Come Out for 10th Annual Strides for Health 5K


Close to 250 individuals participated in the 10th Annual Strides for Health 5K held at Allegan General Hospital on Saturday, August 20, 2016. Events included a 5K run and walk and one-mile kids’ fun run. Participants ranged in age from as young as one in the kids’ fun run, up to 76 in the 5K.

Luke Boulter (Plainwell, MI) was the overall male winner. Luke was the first person to cross the finish line at 17:42. Nate Passorelli (Allegan, MI), who crossed the finish line at 18:40, was the second overall male winner. Joel Vanderkooi (Kalamazoo, MI) was the overall male masters’ winner with a time of 19:17.

Renee Letz (Palos Park, IL) was the overall female winner. Her time was 21:13. Lauren Raycraft (Kalamazoo, MI) was the second overall female winner with a time of 21:47. The overall female masters’ winner was Charity Vanderlaan (Holland, MI) with a time of 23:36.

Strides for Health 5K Run/Walk is a put on by the Allegan General Hospital Foundation, Allegan Tigershark Aquatic Club, and Allegan Public Schools’ Swimming and Diving Program. The goal of the Strides for Health 5K is to help maintain and improve the health of the community and raise awareness about the alarming risks of heart disease. Heart disease is the number one cause of death among men and women. Proceeds from this event will help fund free community heart screens provided by Allegan Healthcare Group as well as to help fund sporting activities for Allegan Public Schools.
