Runners & Walkers Come Out for 11th Annual Strides for Health 5K


Over 200 individuals participated in the 11th Annual Strides for Health 5K held at Allegan General Hospital on Saturday, August 19, 2017. Events included a 5K run and walk and one-mile kids fun run. Participants ranged in age from as young as two in the kids fun run, up to 78 in the 5K.

Blane Johnson (Allegan, MI) was the overall male winner. Blane was the first person to cross the finish line at 17:31. Nate Passorelli (Allegan, MI), who crossed the finish line at 17:35, was the second overall male winner. The third overall male winner was Calvin Chopp (Allegan, MI), who crossed the finish line at 17:41. Doug Muenzer (Allegan, MI) was the overall male masters’ winner with a time of 19:52.

Kate Meinecke (Royal Oak, MI) was the overall female winner. Her time was 19:55. Tracy Argo (Portage, MI) was the second overall female winner with a time of 21:18. The third overall female winner was Paula Chalupa (Otsego, MI). Paula crossed the finish line at 22:07. The overall female masters’ winner was Charity Vanderlaan (Holland, MI) with a time of 23:49.

Strides for Health 5K Run/Walk is a put on by the Allegan General Hospital Foundation, Allegan Public Schools’ Sideline Cheer, and Allegan Public Schools’ Women’s Swimming and Diving Program. The goal of the Strides for Health 5K is to help maintain and improve the health of the community and raise awareness about the alarming risks of heart disease. Heart disease is the number one cause of death among men and women. Proceeds from this event will help fund free community heart screens provided by Allegan Healthcare Group as well as to help fund sporting activities for Allegan Public Schools.
