Digital Mammography

We believe every woman needs to make her health a priority. Yearly mammography exams, along with monthly breast self-exams, are vital in the fight against breast cancer where early detection saves lives. That’s why Ascension Borgess Allegan Hospital invested in a digital mammography system.

Digital mammography has many advantages over traditional film mammography including shorter exam times, faster results and fewer callbacks. It also increases our ability to detect cancer earlier—especially in women under 50, women who are pre-menopausal or women with dense breasts. All resulting in less stress and anxiety for you!

A mammogram usually consists of two views of each breast. During the procedure each breast is placed on a platform in the mammogram machine with a cushioning pad, pressed firmly between two plates and an x-ray is taken. Our mammography services has earned the gold seal of accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and our radiologic technologists are also registered mammography technologists by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology.

To prepare for a mammogram, dress comfortably. A two-piece outfit is usually the most convenient because you will need to undress above the waist. You should not use any type of powders, deodorants, ointments or creams prior to your exam because they can affect the quality of the mammogram.

Call our Radiology department at (269) 686-4210 to schedule your annual mammography screening. Outpatient procedures are scheduled between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with late afternoon appointments available on Tuesdays. We also encourage you to see your primary care provider, if you have not had a recent physical examination of your breasts by a clinician.
