Direct Anterior Approach
Minimally Invasive Hip Replacement
Traditional hip replacement surgeries involve operating from the side or back of the hip and require a considerable amount of disturbance to the joint and surrounding tissues, not to mention an incision about 8-12 inches long.
Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) is much less invasive, requiring an incision only 4-6 inches long made to the front (anterior) of the hip. Going through the front of the hip does not require detaching any muscles or tendons, which for patients means less postsurgical pain, scarring and a much faster return to normal activity. Dr. Mark Warner was the first orthopedic surgeon in Southwest Michigan to perform DAA.
